Don't Kill Them Until You Collect Them- Dead insects are hard to Mount
When most people think of insects they think,"the only good bug is a dead bug". Now you have an excuse to get rid of those pests. By the way, most insects are not really bugs, but there is a group of insects called true bugs, here is an example in this photo.
The photo on the right is of a Cicada or a jar fly as I call them. It is a "true" bug. All other insects are insects not bugs but it is ok to call all 6 legged, 3 body segmented, exoskeleton protected Arthropods "Bugs". From Wikipedia - Hemiptera /hɛˈmɪptərə/ is an order of insects most often known as the true bugs (cf. bug), comprising around 50,000 80,000 species[2] of cicadas, aphids, planthoppers, leafhoppers, shield bugs, and others. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemiptera |
Assignment- Getting started
If you except this mission then begin with 20 specimens. Don't overwhelm yourself when you first begin and be selective in what you collect. Go for the larger or more colorful examples that are easier to mount and identify. If you are a beginner and maybe a student ask friends or family to help. **BEWARE** some insects bite and or sting. There is a reason God has given some insects bright red, yellow or black markings, THEY ARE DANGEROUS if you collect, collect with caution. **DISCLAIMER** I am NOT responsible for any harm that might come upon you if you decide to chase and collect insects in the wild.
Purpose - To Celebrate God's Awesome Creative Hand
Why do I collect? It's a way to celebrate God's creative beauty. Mounting and labeling and displaying allows others to view creatures that they would not normally be able to enjoy.
