Display Box - 3rd Step

A protective box is a must have.
Materials
Shirt or gift box - purchased from one of the Dollar Stores in the area. I chose a box that is 17 X 11 and 2 1/2 inches deep.
Foam Board - I also purchased a foam board from Dollar General for a dollar plus tax.
Cut the board to fit inside the display box..
Measure and cut the foam board to fit snugly inside the bottom of the box. Later you will mount your insects in this box using pins. Pins from WalMart work just fine.
Some Insects eat other insects- There are groups of tiny insects that feed on dead insects. Sometimes they will lay their eggs on the dead insect and the larva that hatch eat the remains. You then end up with dust. I store my insects, after they have dried, in sealable plastic containers. Later I add them to sealed wooden boxes. You also might add a few moth balls.
Here is a photo of some of my display boxes. I have the wood and tools and make my own. The display box on the right came from an antique mall.

Pinning Boards - 4th Step

I used the remainder of the foam board to make pinning boards to position my insects and allow them to dry before mounting in the display box. I used a little glue so that I could double the thickness, you may not need to double the boards. Also I created one board with a slit to mount Butterflies and Moths. See Illustration below.
